  23.      B. What is the philosophical emphasis of CAW?

  25.         CAW is forward looking. Many members are generally pro-
  26.  science, pro-space and pro-technology.  Most members do have
  27.  concerns about appropriateness of technology, scientific ethics
  28.  and ethics in application of science and technology, in
  29.  particular as these effect Gaia, the environment and the human
  30.  condition.

  34.         The CAW Mission Statement is:  "to evolve a network of
  35.  information, mythology and experience that provides a context
  36.  and stimulus for reawakening Gaia, and reuniting Her children
  37.  through tribal community dedicated to responsible stewardship
  38.  and evolving consciousness." We are fairly all-embracing in
  39.  promoting general Pagan and Gaian lifestyles and values.  We
  40.  advocate basic feminist and environmentalist principles,
  41.  including freedom of reproductive choice, ordination of women as
  42.  Priestesses, sacred sexuality, alternate relationships, gay and
  43.  lesbian rights, legalization and utilization of hemp products,
  44.  protection and restoration of endangered species, wilderness
  45.  sanctuaries, green politics, etc.  We are also engaged in
  46.  restoring ancient Mysteries and rituals, such as the Eleusinia
  47.  and Panathenaia.

  49.         Our mythealogy is based on the Gaia Thesis --- that all
  50.  Earthly life, us included, comprises a single great organism,
  51.  the living body of Mother Earth, known as "Gaia" to the ancient
  52.  Greeks.  Our Goddess is the very Soul of Nature!  And our
  53.  vision of the future evolution of this life-stream includes
  54.  what Dane Rudyar has called "the planetarization of
  55.  consciousness," and Teilhard de Chardin terms "the Omega
  56.  Point."  This implies the linking up of all sentients into a
  57.  "global brain" wherein a vast single consciousness emerges,
  58.  just as we ourselves individually attain such consciousness
  59.  sometime during our first year of life.  Thus will allow Gaia
  60.  to come fully into wakefulness, where now She but slumbers (and
  61.  dreams...).

  63.         With this ultimate vision, CAW has goals far greater than
  64.  merely establishing nice, neat, little encapsulated "nests,"
  65.  meeting monthly or so and unconnected with the rest of our
  66.  world.  For many Pagan groups and Wiccan covens, that is
  67.  adequate, but we Waterkin have a much larger vision:  to reunite
  68.  the scattered children of Gaia, and bring the whole Family back
  69.  together again!

  71.         Thousands of years ago, there was a messy divorce between
  72.  our Earthly Mother and the alien Step-Father Sky God who had
  73.  displaced our true Father and raped our Mother into a forced
  74.  marriage.  Some of the children sided with the Step-Father and
  75.  went with Him.  Others remained with the Mother, to be bullied
  76.  and persecuted for centuries by our former brothers (and even
  77.  some of our sisters).  It is time for this separation to end.

  79.         The word religion comes from roots meaning "re-linking."
  80.  We have been divided and conquered.  Our world has been split
  81.  between Heaven and Earth, matter and spirit, men and women,
  82.  humanity and Nature, body and soul, the darkness and the light.
  83.  Western civilization is intrinsically alienating and alienated
  84.  from the rest of the life-stream.  The true function of
  85.  religion is to heal that alienation, those splits, and achieve
  86.  reunification.  It is ironic that, in fact, much of the
  87.  divisiveness has actually been caused by "churchianity" acting
  88.  in the name of religion!  But Paganism isn't merely another
  89.  religion among many; Paganism is religion --- in the very truest
  90.  sense of the word.  Our task is to bring together, and to heal.

  92.         Hatred divides us; love unites us.  Thus we must forge
  93.  bonds of love and kinship with each other, even outside our own
  94.  faiths.  We must ever widen our already far-flung network of
  95.  magical lovers.  Though we must of necessity maintain a certain
  96.  wary distrust of those whose beliefs require them to subjugate
  97.  all dissidents, still we must whenever possible seek common
  98.  ground upon which to build our new temples of the spirit.  We
  99.  must not merely "tolerate" diversity --- we must cherish it,
  100.  celebrate it, and revel in it!

  109.  In the above, Otter speaks of a global mind of Gaia.  This is
  110.  *not* some monolithic construct wherein all personality is lost
  111.  and individuality is crushed.  I (and at least some others) a
  112.  conceive of it as a global linking of all minds.  No longer
  113.  would speech be an impediment to voicing ones inner thoughts.
  114.  One could speak the thought and all nuances, flavors and
  115.  textures would go along with it.  Such would be the re-linking.
